Experience
Download résuméFifteen years building distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and e-commerce platforms at Nike, Adobe, eBay, and CBS Interactive. Now I lead a team at Nike, where much of my work is mentoring engineers and setting technical direction.
Nike
Beaverton, ORLeading a team of five engineers responsible for Nike's global bot mitigation platform. We protect high-demand launches across every major market against as many as 12 billion automated attempts a month, and we keep those systems reliable on a 24/7 on-call rotation. I set the technical roadmap and drove a full rewrite of the primary detection service, but a growing share of my time now goes to mentoring the team and partnering with the security, product, and regional teams who rely on us. I also stay close to the data, measuring detection efficacy and tracking false positive rates as bot tactics evolve.
Built a cloud edge processing system that analyzed live web traffic at over 250k requests per second. Designed infrastructure to identify and neutralize IP ranges tied to hosting providers used for automation, and built data pipelines that detected falsified consumer data before it could affect launch outcomes.
Built core tooling for Nike's Cloud Platform Engineering team during the company's move to AWS: deployment pipelines, Elasticsearch standardization, and AWS access management used by most of Nike's engineering org. I helped bring in SignalFX for real-time metrics and built the integration pipeline that's still the backbone of observability across Nike engineering today. I also contributed a plugin-based health check architecture to Netflix's open source Prana project, extending it to support non-web services inside Nike's microservices ecosystem.
Magento (Adobe)
Portland, ORContributed to Magento Commerce Order Management, building configuration tooling and integrations with external systems. The most substantial project was a multi-source order sourcing engine I built with a three-person team: a weighted optimization system that allocated inventory across warehouses to cut fulfillment costs and reduce shipment splits.
eBay
Portland, ORBuilt the backend data integration layer for the Retail Associate Platform, an in-store retail product deployed at national chains, pulling in real-time inventory, SKU, and pricing data from retail partners. Separately engineered APIs for connected-glass storefronts for Sony, TOMS, and Rebecca Minkoff as part of a patent-pending retail initiative with Westfield Labs.
CBS Interactive
Portland, ORIntroduced dedicated Android and iOS categories to CNET Download.com's software catalog, at the time the largest in the world, expanding mobile discoverability across millions of listed titles.
